Who provides the app
Doctor’s Journal is provided by Māhanga Technologies Limited (“we”, “us”), a New Zealand company (NZBN 9429053963871). By using the app you agree to these terms.
Licence to use the app
We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Doctor’s Journal for personal, non-commercial purposes. It does not cover commercial, clinical or institutional use.
You may not:
- copy, modify or distribute the app or any part of it
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it
- use it for any commercial purpose
- sublicense, sell or transfer your access
- use it in any way that breaks the law
Not medical advice
Doctor’s Journal is not medical advice and does not replace professional medical care. It helps you record and organise information from your medical appointments. AI summaries, transcripts and other generated content are for your convenience only.
- Always ask your doctor or a qualified health professional for medical advice.
- Never ignore professional advice or delay seeking it because of something in this app.
- AI summaries can contain errors or leave things out. Check anything important with your health provider.
- In a medical emergency, call 111 in New Zealand, or your local emergency number.
- Do not use the app to make decisions about medication changes, treatment or diagnosis.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent New Zealand law allows, Māhanga Technologies Limited and its officers, employees and agents are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, including:
- loss of data or health records
- errors in AI-generated content, transcripts or summaries
- anything done or not done because of information in the app
- interruptions, delays or failures in the app’s services
- unauthorised access to your data caused by things beyond our reasonable control
Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim.
Your rights as a consumer
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement. These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
Your responsibilities

- Back up your data regularly using the backup feature.
- Get consent from everyone present before recording an appointment, and follow the recording laws where you are.

Acceptable use
Use Doctor’s Journal only as a personal medical journal. You must not:

- record people without their knowledge or consent where the law requires it

Ending your use
We may suspend or end your access at any time, with or without cause or notice. Reasons include breaking these terms, fraud or illegal activity, abusing the AI services, or conduct we decide is harmful to other users or the service.
You can end your account at any time with Delete account in the app’s settings. The data on your phone is permanently deleted. You need to remove encrypted backups from your own cloud storage yourself.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we will update the date below and tell you in the app. Continuing to use the app means you accept the change. For a material change that significantly affects your rights, we will give at least 30 days’ notice. If you do not agree, stop using the app and delete your account.
