Certo legal
Terms of Service
Last updated: 30 October 2026
These Terms govern your use of the Certo app, which is developed and published by Māhanga Technologies Limited (New Zealand; NZBN 9429053963871) (“we”, “us”). By using Certo you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.
What Certo does
Certo helps you produce New Zealand electrical certificates (Certificate of Compliance, Electrical Safety Certificate, Record of Inspection and Certificate of Verification — and, where available, gasfitting and plumbing certificates) by voice and store them. Certo is a tool to assist you; you remain the certifying person responsible for the accuracy, completeness and lawfulness of every certificate you create, sign and issue.
Your responsibilities
- You must hold the appropriate registration/licence to carry out and certify the work you record.
- You are responsible for reviewing every field before you sign — voice and scan features are aids and can make mistakes.
- You must comply with the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, and where they apply the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010 and the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006, and all applicable standards. Certo does not provide legal or compliance advice.
- You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
Accounts
You need an account (Apple, Google or email) to use Certo. You’re responsible for activity under your account.
Subscriptions & payments
- Certo offers a free trial, after which continued use of paid features requires a subscription (billed monthly).
- Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store (and, where available, Google Play). Payment is charged to your store account; your subscription auto-renews until cancelled.
- You manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store / Google Play account settings. Some features are one-time in-app purchases rather than subscriptions — for example the Inspector module and inspection credit packs (one credit is used each time you sign a Record of Inspection or Certificate of Verification). Company, property-manager and lines-company web portals are billed monthly through Stripe. Refunds for app-store purchases are handled by the relevant app store under its policies.
- Prices are shown in-app before you purchase and may change with notice.
Your content
You keep ownership of the certificate data, photos and recordings you put into Certo. You grant us the limited permission needed to process and store that content so the app can work for you (see the Privacy Policy).
Acceptable use
Don’t misuse Certo — no unlawful use, no attempts to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, and no using it to create false or fraudulent certificates.
Availability
We aim to keep Certo running but don’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Some features (voice-to-field, scanning, backup) require an internet connection and third-party services.
Disclaimers & liability
Certo is provided “as is”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude implied warranties and are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from certificates you issue. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act that cannot lawfully be excluded. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Certo in the 12 months before the claim.
Termination
You can stop using Certo at any time. We may suspend or end access if you breach these Terms. Your signed certificates remain your record.
App stores
If you got Certo from the Apple App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple is not responsible for Certo or for supporting it.
Changes
We may update these Terms; the “Last updated” date will change. Continued use means you accept the updated Terms.
