Elect NZ
Terms of Service
Last updated: 17 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Māhanga Technologies Limited, a New Zealand company (“we”, “us”), for the Elect NZ website and apps. If you use the iPhone app, Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement also applies; where these terms and Apple’s agreement differ about the app licence, Apple’s agreement applies.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using ELECT NZ, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Description of Service
ELECT NZ is an AI-powered reference tool that provides searchable access to New Zealand electrical regulations and standards, along with electrical calculators. The service is provided as-is for informational purposes only. Your questions and voice are processed by OpenAI to produce answers (see our Privacy Policy).
3. Who can use Elect NZ
You must be 18 or older. Elect NZ is a reference tool for people working in the New Zealand electrical industry. It does not replace your obligations as a registered or licensed electrical worker.
4. User Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
5. Plans and payments
Free: 3 searches.
Elect NZ Individual in the apps: NZ$14.99 per month, an auto-renewing subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account when you confirm the purchase.
- It renews each month unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You are charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings (in the app: Settings → Manage Subscription). Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Refunds for store purchases are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply.
Website plans (individual, team and company) are billed by Stripe, monthly or annually as shown at checkout, and renew until cancelled from your account (Profile → Manage Subscription).
Live voice includes a daily and monthly time allowance, shown in the app.
Team plans: your employer or team administrator controls your seat. If they remove you or the team plan ends, your paid access ends.
6. Acceptable Use
You may not use ELECT NZ for any unlawful purpose, to distribute malware, to attempt to gain unauthorized access, or to interfere with the service's operation.
7. Intellectual Property
Regulation content is sourced from official NZ standards bodies and is subject to their copyright. You may not copy or republish standards text from Elect NZ beyond what you need for your own work. Elect NZ’s software, design and branding belong to Māhanga Technologies Limited.
8. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
ELECT NZ provides searchable access to official New Zealand electrical regulations and standards as a reference tool only. Users are responsible for verifying accuracy and ensuring compliance with current standards before relying on results in live electrical work. Answers are generated by AI and can be wrong.
See our Disclaimer page for full details on limitations of liability and the informational nature of this service.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account (see Delete your account). Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; a website subscription is cancelled when you delete your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
10. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of New Zealand.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
